The Sit-Down Build

Six steps from an hour of talking to a live site. Same six every time, whether you're a roofer or a church. Here they are with nothing smoothed over.

Step by step

What happens, in order

  1. Before we meet · two minutes

Book a time and answer a few short questions

Your name, your business, your domain if you have one. That's the homework. There's no sixty-question intake form, because those sit in your inbox for three weeks and then we both feel bad about it.

  2. The sit-down · one hour

We talk, and I record it

A video call. I ask about your business, your customers, what you charge, what you're tired of explaining. You talk. People say what they mean better out loud than in a form box, which is the entire reason this works.

  3. After the call · within one week

I build it from your own words

Your plan on one page, your website, your follow-up system, and a short video of you. The copy is what you said, cleaned up. I don't make it up, and I don't write around a gap.

  4. Same delivery

You get a list of blanks, not guesses

Anything I couldn't fill from what you said — a price, a date, a certification number — goes on one list with a note on what each answer unlocks. You can answer it from your phone. Nothing on your site is a thing you never said.

  5. Walkthrough · that same week

We go through it together and you change what you want

Out loud, on a call, not by way of a forty-comment email thread. You'll know within ten minutes whether it sounds like you.

  6. Launch · within two business days of your sign-off

It goes live on your domain, in your account

Your forms drop into your inbox, the text-back turns on, and the review requests start. You own the account and the domain. You can change it later without calling me, though you can also just call me.

How fast it went once

One real build, clock times and all

Todd Wall's recording landed at 11:10 in the morning. By 3:26 that afternoon his site was live on his own domain with the form wired to his CRM. Plan, method map, slide deck, a printable one-sheet and seven pages, same day.

That was a fast one and I won't pretend it's the promise. It's the proof that nothing in this process requires six weeks of waiting on a designer.

The rules

Four things I don't bend on

Your words, not mine

Your site says what you said. I clean it up. I don't invent a voice for you and hand it back.

Blanks, not guesses

If I don't know a price, a date or a name, it stays a blank until you fill it. A confident wrong number on your own website is worse than an empty space.

You own it

Your account, your domain, your contact list. If you leave, you leave with all three and I'll export the list for you.

When you call, you get me

There's no account manager between us. That's the upside and the limit of working with a small shop, and you should know both.

Questions people ask

About the process itself

What do I need to have ready before the sit-down?

Nothing written. Your logo if you have one, and your domain login if you know where it is. If you don't know where your domain is, that's a normal answer and we'll find it.

What if I hate it?

You say so on the walkthrough and I change it. The whole point of building from a recording is that there's a record of what you actually asked for, so disagreements are short.

Can I add pages later?

Yes, and you can add them yourself or have me do it. It's your account either way.

Do you work with people outside Springfield?

Yes. The sit-down is a video call, so location doesn't matter much. Most of my work is in Southwest Missouri because that's where I've been since 2002.
